[Your Letters] Tired of the xenophobia at Syracuse University

Two days after the Fall 2020 semester started at Syracuse University, the xenophobia issue again happened on campus, while it was a distinguished professor who is to blame for the return this time.

Due to the derogatory language — "Wuhan Flu" and "Chinese Communist Party Virus" — that used by a distinguished professor of biochemistry at Syracuse University in his syllabus, I wrote this op-ed and got a chance to be published by syracuse.com. It's a little emotional, admittedly, but here is what my sincere thought is.

“My father is a surgeon, and my mom is a physician at a hospital back in China. I was taught to show my full respect to doctors and teachers because the former cure your body, and the latter educate your heart to be a better person. Now, I feel disappointed that a biochemist[ry professor] — who in my view is a combination of these two jobs — behaves in this way.”

I would really appreciate if you can click onto the original post on Syracuse.com to take a read. This voice is from a native Chinese who is a sincere student with a wish to earn his bachelor's diploma here in the U.S. He is not asking for anything more than that.
